Recognized nationally and internationally, Sushi Performance and Visual Art, San Diego’s Urban Art Center has, for 30 years, served as the hub for the exploration, development and engagement with established and emerging genre-bending artists immersed in the task of challenging themselves and audiences to discover the boundaries of artistic enrichment.

This mission is met primarily through Sushi’s unique, artist-centric programming:

  • Presenter of, at times non genre-specific, exceptional quality interdisciplinary performance pieces by international, national and regional artists and performance companies. Theatre, dance, performance art, contemporary music and visual artists are presented regularly throughout the Sushi season.
  • Artist in Residency Program, providing a developmental home to performance and visual artists of particularly high caliber in the creation and presentation of new work.
  • The home for regionally-based new and established performance artists and groups to develop new pieces and cultivate new voices which reflect the artistry, diversity and the rich cultural tradition known throughout the San Diego region.

Additionally, at times throughout the season, Sushi makes itself available at very cost-effective rental rates to existing local performance companies.
